fameONE’s Insurance Battle Round 2

In twitterspeak, this is what many would consider #winning, minus the sarcasm.

My recent absence from tumblr has been attributed to a few things:

-I’ve had some shit go down in my life that I’d like to keep private, because adults don’t put their business out on the streets.

-The operational tempo in my professional life has increased due to my upcoming trip to Australia which has distracted me from tumblr quite a bit.

-I’m making an attempt to lighten the personal baggage I have with women. It’s always with women. What the hell? There’s a pattern here, but I’m getting off topic.

-I haven’t had much of a car to drive since the accident, which, in turn, keeps me from exploring and taking photos of cool shit as often as I’d like. Peep the HDR filter on my Samsung Galaxy S II in the above image. Fuck your iPhone, sheeple. ^_^

Why I’m #winning:

-The insurance companies have both agreed that my insurance battle is pretty cut and dry. I win. 100%.

-The above pictured BNR32 (Aoi-chan) will be mine. Hell, it might as well already be mine. But you know, paperwork and such. The registration and inspection process will be completed sometime next week.

-I’ll be in Australia attempting to… well, I’m going down there to be Lexington Steele for a month.

-My friends are amazing people.

-I found out that I get a bonus for staying in Okinawa. That’s quite nice. Bonus accepted. fameONE ain’t goin’ nowhere.

Sidenote: I’m naming this car after a former Japanese AV model and now struggling actress named Sora Aoi. You may have heard of, seen, or fapped to her a few times. XOXO Gossip Girl. Fuck you, Serena Van der Woodesen, and you too Lily. Poor Chuck, though. Dude can’t win for losing. Man, this is getting weird. I’m tempted to type some nonsense because it’s italicized. Ok, ok, I’m done.

Dear Fellow Folks of Color,

I am writing to tell you that I’m in love with you. I would have said it to your faces, but I don’t have that kind of travel money.

What I love about you, POC, is…well, there’s a lot.

First of all, I love that, despite what…

I love you too, boo boo.

As of now, this BNR32 looks like a winner. I haven’t made it down to Shuri to see the silver one. The gunmetal Nismo at Taki motors was just sold yesterday. All other 32s on the island are either disgustingly overpriced or total rust buckets.

I’ve narrowed down my car search to these three. So far, I’ve only seen the blue one in person. It’s pretty solid and relatively stock with a few minor things (boost controller, seats, A pillar gauges, rims).

I’m headed out to go see the gunmetal one at Taki Motors. From some of the other photos, the engine looked a little built. I don’t want to buy a car that’s already built. Fame don’t play that. However, if it’s just clean then I’ll work with that.

The silver one is a mystery but I’ll have to go all the way down by Shuri to find it.

So far, these are the ones I’ve been able to find in a price range that will allow me to have an extra JPY 250,000 to 300,000 to play with.

I (doridoridame) along with a few other ladies have started this blog to promote awareness of females breaking into the car industry - from simply showing an interest, to sharing female owned rides - whether it be our own or of women we know - and everything else in between.

This is meant to show our knowledge, and although none of us know everything, that’s why we’re here - to learn. We want to prove that women can take initiative. There are no limitations. We can go against social norms. Enough of the derogatory remarks because they’ve become cliche. A woman can do anything she puts her mind to, especially in the automotive industry.

This is meant to be a positive automotive blog - no bashing, no belittling, and certainly no negative attitudes. No drama lies here because we are positive. Any females are welcome to post, and anyone is welcome to submit. Let’s all come together to share our different tastes, and opinions.

Check it out, y’all!

Women are not “breaking” into the automotive industry.  Women hold high level positions in every facet of the automotive industry.

Monisha Kaltenborn is the CEO of Sauber’s F1 team.  Speaking of F1, there are currently two female F1 drivers in F1.  Including Susie Wolff who joined Williams last week.

Danica Patrick is the most famous current female driver, however there are successful female drivers in countless race series.  I’ve also met many women who race and build cars.  I’ve had plenty of female students at track days who do 10-20 events a year.  Women may be less frequent in the car scene, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t welcomed.  If anything it is the exact opposite.

This makes female car owners look worse in my opinion.  Almost as though it’s an achievement for a woman to own or drive a car that is modified.  If I see a car that I like it doesn’t matter who built it.

I’m not bashing, just stating facts

Also, I’m no chauvinist.  My sister goes to every car event, helps at every driving event I attend, and is building her Miata for track days.  I’ve supported her interest in cars since it has started.

If you think I’m lying here is a link to the top 100 women in the automotive industry. http://www.autonews.com/section/leading_women

Another one of doridoridames’s rant of how women are rejected or struggle in the “car industry” when it is quite the opposite. Only because the amount of women to men ratio in the sick JAAAYDM tight maaaaawd scene is low, doesn’t mean that women are just breaking in. There is more to the “car industry” than making your  car into a sick ride. Another fact that needs to be consider, many girls that I have met do not care about cars and see them as a appliance rather than anything else so of course there won’t be the abundance of women in the “car industry” as there is men.

Oh god I’m a girl and I get annoyed of all the “girls in the car industry rants” I see. Women don’t need to prove how much they know about cars or how much they’re into cars.  Just do what you do and if you love it that’s all that matters.

I get SO sick of seeing someone say a car is shitty and then someone says a girl owns that and the tone changes completely. I don’t care what your gender is A SHITTY CAR IS A SHITTY CAR. Granted I try not to bash on people’s cars in general (especially because I have no right to with my car haha) but you can’t avoid the fact sometimes. Girls in the car industry with a decent car or subpar skills in a motorsport have everything handed to them. You don’t even need to be good looking. Yeah it sucks that it’s like that but what can you do? It’s a male dominated industry and the ratio of girls to guys will never be higher so it will never change.

And I obviously am for women in the scene, I love having girl friends in the scene because hanging around guys gets old after a while. But like I said there is no need to prove anything. Spend less time trying to prove to people how much you know or whatever and let your car or skill do the talking.

Also, sorry for ranting I don’t normally do this but I just had to finally say something.

I’m with Touda. Why do women always want attention for doing average things? I own two automotive shops, I’m ASE certified and i do it because I love it, not because OMG IM A GIRL LUK AT ME I LIKE CARZ IM SO HAWT.

No matter what women fail.

Ooo, hot-button issues of equality HURR

  • Women can’t drive

  • Women are mechanically inept and incompetent

  • If a woman has a built car, a man is responsible for it

I always get a kick out of hearing things like this. While I do admit that there is a certain sexual novelty with a woman who is into cars, it’s not what many women may perceive it as. I’ll use myself as an example. I feel as though it’s turn-on if a woman has the same level, or even more, of dedication to automotive enthusiasm as myself. Not because it’s because they’re doing something that’s HURRDURR MEN ONLY, but because it’s rare that I meet women who understand why I do what I do. It’s rare that I meet women who understand why I’ll go broke dumping five grand into a GT-R without blinking an eye, rationing food money for gas money. It’s ridiculous and downright impulsive, but there’s a certain inexplicable love for a machine that I treat like a living thing. I’m sure I have other issues that need to be addressed, but that’s not the point. A woman sharing my passion is sexy because it’s a reflection of two different souls who just happen to be on the same page. The same could go for my love of photography and music.

So while I certainly applaud anyone for pushing equality, I do wonder if such a blog in a place like tumblr will produce hatred amongst the sheep. I’m sure it will. Here in Japanland, it’s not exactly common to see a woman with a built car, but when I do meet women who slide, race on the touge or even just cruise, chances are she did it herself and not because of a man. That’s cool. Stateside car culture seems so… fucked up. The fads and trends, the misconceptions, and overall lack of respect blows my mind. Have fun with this experiment. I’ll happily watch hoping that it will turn into something much bigger all for the sake of equality. There is a much stronger human rights issue dwelling beneath the surface of any topic touching on what people see is outside of the western social norm.

Sidenote: My friend’s mom destroys people on the touge, in a supercharged AE86, on random late nights. Think about that.

fameONE’s Insurance Battle Round 1

Where the hell is my grill?

Times may be a little difficult, but I’m not dead yet. I’m not going to let anything keep me down. I’m not built to submit to my burdens. I carry them as need be and crush them as I see fit.

The insurance company currently believes my car is a ‘total loss.’ Different body/repair shops have different opinions on the matter. There is a strong possibility that I can get the money to rebuild the car. If not, I’ll just get the money for the car which totals around $12,000 USD. Either way, it looks as though the insurance company will pay me, maybe, at some point, soonish, or probably later. Thankfully, the drunk old guy who I was involved in the accident with has not changed his story. He assumed full responsibility of his recklessness and negligence of the road. There’s no point in arguing his intoxication because he’s an elderly Okinawan man and I’m a gaijin. I won’t win that fight and I’m lucky to have made it this far.

For the time being, I’m without transportation. Whenever my insurance company decides to stop dragging their feet with the paperwork, they will give me the proper authorization for a rental. I hope this happens before Thursday because, as it stands, I’m going to be jumping through hoops just to make it to work tomorrow. From there, I’ll have the rental for a maximum of seven days, giving the insurance companies ample time to duke it out with each other and settle the claim.

My current stance on the matter is to take the money and go immediately to another dealership to get another BNR32. More than likely, the car will have to be ordered from the main island because Fame isn’t going to entertain anymore Okinawan cars due to the rust. This needs to all happen before the 27th of this month. Why? Well, I’m going to Australia for a month. The plan was to drop the car off at my paint shop for body work and the original paint job but plans change. If I can, at least, purchase and complete the paperwork on another car I’ll be content. I haven’t the slightest idea with what color I want. At this point, I don’t care so long as it’s not green, gold or that awful Nissan maroon. I have to play the waiting game until it sorts itself out.

Concerning my current physical condition; I’m obviously not dead. I’ve been in rather intense pain throughout the day. I got the best prescription Naval medicine can offer; Ibuprofen. I’ve been vocal about this in the past but I’ll reiterate it, “fuck hospitals.” There’s no better care a Marine can get, on or off duty, than a Corpsmen in the field. My right rotator-cuff is throbbing and my lower back randomly hits me sharp needles of pain. The doctor told me to get a cat scan, then come back if the pain hasn’t gone away. Wonderful. I’ll get right on that 10k walk to the hospital in the pain that I’m in. That’s cool, bro. I’ll get to my health eventually, but for now, I need to ensure that I am not grabbing my ankles for the proverbial, financial dick.

So, about those fauxminists. You know the ones. They’re those supposed feminists who are all for gender equality who somehow manage to be either racist, classist, ableist, and/or transphobic, to name just a few oppressive behaviors.

In another word, fauxminists. Fake feminists. “Feminists” who…
